A helpful hand for families in need

We’ve just found out about a new ‘School Essentials’ grant scheme for residents of East Durham who are on a low income and struggling with the cost of school uniform.

The scheme provides a £100 grant per school aged child in the form of a supermarket/high-street voucher. There is an option to add an additional £30 voucher for a winter coat for each school aged child.

The grant is available to residents of East Durham who are experiencing substantial financial hardship. Individuals can’t apply for the grant themselves; they must come through a referral via one of a number of agencies.

The local agencies most relevant for Peterlee are:

Durham County Carers

Easington Community Mental Health Team

Edenhill People Centre

Health Works

Peterlee Family First Team

One Point Family Hub

Probation Service

GP Social Prescribers

Primary and Secondary Mental Health teams

Oakerside Community Centre

If you are in a household with school age children and experiencing substantial financial hardship and are already engaged with one of the agencies listed above, you can speak to them about a referral for the School Essentials Grant fund.

The grant is being administered by East Durham Trust but referrals should come through one of the agencies listed above.

A Prayer for our young people taking their SATS, GCSEs and A-Levels this Summer

Dear Lord,

As I take this exam, I thank you that my value
Is not based on my performance, but on your great love for me.
Come into my heart so that we can walk through this time together.
Help me, not only with this test, but the many tests of life that are sure to come my way.

As I take this exam, bring back to my mind everything I studied
and be gracious with what I have overlooked.
Help me to remain focussed and calm, confident in the facts and in my ability,
and firm in the knowledge that no matter what happens today you are there with me.

Amen

Please remember our Young People taking exams in your prayers over the coming weeks.
